Reclaim the yard, not just the view
A cut stump is not finished business. In our climate it will hold water, soften, sink an inch or two a year, and throw sprouts around the collar for as long as the root system has stored sugar. Mow over it once and you find out how expensive a stump is to a blade deck. Grinding ends all of that in an afternoon.
We grind several inches below grade as standard — deep enough to put topsoil and grass over it and mow like nothing was there. If you plan to plant another tree, a post, or a patio pad in that spot, say so at the quote and we go deeper and chase more of the root plate out, because a shallow grind will not give you planting depth. Surface roots running out across the lawn get chased back as far as access and utilities allow. We locate before we grind; nobody wants a cable line or an irrigation head chewed up.
You decide what happens to the grindings. Backfilling the hole with the chips is included: we rake it out, crown it slightly because it will settle over a few months, and you top it with soil later. Hauling the chips off costs a bit more and leaves you a clean, level patch that day, which is what most people want if they are reseeding right away. Either way the pile does not sit in your yard. And if another company took the tree and left you the stump, we will grind it — that is a normal call for us, no attitude about it.

Signs to look for
When you need this work
Termites and carpenter ants
A rotting stump is an insect colony fifteen feet from your foundation. Grinding removes the food source.
Sprouts keep coming back
Water oaks, sweetgums, and bradfords resprout from the collar for years until the stump is ground out.
Stump left by another crew
Tree gone, stump still there? We grind stumps other companies left behind all the time.
You want the space back
Lawn, sod, a shed pad, a fence line, or a new tree in the same hole — all of it needs the stump gone.
How it goes
Our process
- 1
Quote at the stump
We measure across the widest point at grade and check access and utilities.
- 2
Locate and protect
Utilities marked, irrigation and cable noted, plywood or mats over turf and walks.
- 3
Grind below grade
Cutter wheel takes the stump and the flare down past grade, roots chased back.
- 4
Backfill or haul
Chips raked in and crowned, or loaded out and the hole left clean and level.
