A removal is a rigging problem before it's a cutting problem
Most of Jacksonville sits under loblolly pine and water oak, and both of them get tall before they get strong. When a pine loses its top in a storm or an oak starts leaning toward the bedroom wall, the tree stops being scenery and starts being a liability. That is the point where a removal is the honest answer, and we will tell you when it is not — plenty of trees we look at just need pruning.
Before a saw comes out we walk the whole site. Where does the wood land, what will the ground hold, can the chip truck get within dragging distance, and where is the septic field and the drain lines. Wet Onslow County soil marks up fast, so if there is any doubt we mat the path or hand-carry the wood out rather than drive equipment across your yard.
In an open lot with a real drop zone we set a hinge and put the tree on the ground in one piece, which is faster and cheaper for you. On a tight lot the tree comes out top down: the climber ties in, we rig each limb onto a lowering device, and the pieces come down under control instead of falling. When the roof is directly under the canopy and there is no room either side, we bring a crane and pick the wood out over the house. Plywood over the walk, plywood over the septic lid, and nobody's fence gets used as a workbench.

Signs to look for
When you need this work
Leaning toward the house
A new lean, cracked soil, or lifted roots on one side means the root plate is already failing.
Dead or hollow trunk
Bare limbs in summer, shelf fungus at the base, or bark falling off in sheets. Dead pines come apart fast.
Too close to the structure
Roots in the foundation, limbs on the shingles, or a trunk sitting inside the drip line of the house.
No drop zone left
Pool, shed, septic field, or a neighbor's fence under the canopy. That's crane and rigging work.
